Do I need a website for my business?

Her reputation preceded her. This local coach is brilliant at what she does. I’ve heard about her client results and seen her fabulous content on Instagram and the backend of her program. She wants to grow, but she doesn’t yet have a website, and she’s trying to tell me that she doesn’t really need one.

This is a very familiar conversation I have a lot.

The question of whether you need a website for your business comes up frequently, especially for coaches, consultants, and service providers who have been getting by on Instagram and referrals.

So let’s explore this (hint: I’m a website girl).

Key Takeaways

  • Instagram is a borrowed space. Your website is the only thing online that you actually own.

  • Local clients are searching for your services right now and finding someone else because you are not there.

  • A website does not have to be complicated. A one-page website covers everything you need to start.

  • The cost of a website is easily justified by just two or three new clients, depending on how much you are charging for your services.

  • Admin tasks like bookings, confirmations, and invoices can be automated through your website, saving you hours every week.

The real cost of not having a website

When she said she could not afford a website, I said what I always say: Not having a website is costing you money.

Your website is a long term investment in your business, not a day-to-day expense. A one-page website for a service-based business 1-Page Website starts at $1,999.

If that website helps you sign two or three new clients in the next six months, it has already paid for itself. If it brings in five or ten new clients, you are well ahead.

The real question is not whether you can afford a website; it’s how many clients you’re losing because you don’t have one.

You do not own Instagram

Building your business on Instagram is a highly risky move. Last month, a coach I follow with more than 10,000 followers had her Instagram shut down, without any notice.

You don’t own your Instagram account, your followers, your content library, none of it. (Your Instagram belongs to Meta. If your account gets flagged, the algorithm changes, or the platform shuts down tomorrow, there is nothing you can do about it)

Instagram is a rented space on someone else's platform. Your website is the only thing online that is truly yours.

This is not about abandoning Instagram; it’s about having a home base that you control. A professional website where your ideal clients can find you, learn about what you do, and book you, without any algorithm deciding whether they see you or not.

Your local clients cannot find you

Before I sat down with this coach, I searched for her services in her area. She did not come up - not in Google search, not on Maps, not in ChatGPT, nothing.

There were people in her own suburb, already looking for a coach, ready to pay, and they found someone else. Not because that person was better, but because that person had a website.

A website with basic local SEO, which all my website designs include, puts you on the map, literally. You become searchable. You start showing up for the people who are already looking for exactly what you offer.

You are more admin than you need

A great website can effectively reduce your time spent on admin. Every new inquiry right now probably looks like this: a message on Instagram, a few back-and-forth emails to agree on a time, a manual invoice sent, a payment chased.

It’s exhausting, and it adds up to hours every week.

A website with a booking system changes all of that. Someone finds you, reads about what you offer, books a discovery call, and receives an automatic confirmation. No chasing. No back and forth.

When I explained this to the coach, her whole expression shifted. You didn’t work this hard to spend so many hours on admin.

Stop overthinking and start simple

Once she got excited, she started listing everything she wanted on her website. A page for this, a section for that, a blog, a shop, a resource library.

But every extra thing adds to your overwhelm, the price of your website, and the time it takes to go live.

A one-page website covers everything you need right now, including your story, services, packages, a way to book you, and a way to contact you. We need your website live sooner, not later (because later never comes). You can expand your website when you have more clients and more revenue behind you.

A complicated website with many pages does not translate to credibility. Instead, we want to launch your website quickly, so you can start attracting (waaay) more clients.

Waiting until it is perfect means waiting forever. Every month without a website is a month of missed leads, missed local visibility, and missed time savings.

Let’s get you live

I have two options for getting your new website live.

When you’re ready, my 1-Page Website package gets your site live within a day. One focused day of design, two weeks of post-launch support, and a website that works from day one.

Or, if you prefer to build your website yourself, my Website Launch Roadmap is your best next step.

This is a roadmap that walks you through every single step: the template, the copy, where to find images, the tech setup, and the launch. Guided by my expertise, you can complete it in your own time, with the self-satisfaction of building it yourself.

Both paths get you to the same place; it just depends on where you are right now.

FAQ

  • Yes. Instagram is a powerful tool, but you do not own it. A website gives you a platform you control, makes you searchable on Google, and allows you to automate bookings and enquiries. Your Instagram and your website work best together, not as substitutes for each other.

  • For most coaches, consultants, and service providers starting out, yes, absolutely. A well-designed, high-converting one-page website can include your services, your story, your packages, and a booking option. You can always add more pages later as your business grows. What is a one-page website

  • This structure is for coaches, consultants, and service providers who are ready to have a professional website live quick without the stress of designing a massive one. If you have a clear idea of your services and you want to start offering them quickly, and with someone who understands how to make them convert, this is for you. It is also ideal if you are currently running everything through Instagram, and you know it is time to have something you actually own.

  • A professionally designed one-page website starts at around $1,999 AUD. Depending on what you charge, you could make this investment back with just one extra client.  I also have my Website Launch Roadmap if budget is a concern right now.

  • With Pink Fig Creative, a one-page website is designed in a single day and is live by the end of it. If you go the DIY route, it typically takes a few months, simply because other things get in the way. Both are valid options depending on where you are in your business.

  • You need a clear idea of how you want to serve and the services you want to offer, a short bio, and some photos. Copy, layout, and technical setup can be guided by me or done for you. Do not wait until everything feels perfect before you begin, because nothing changes if nothing changes.
