Squarespace Fluid Engine
Squarespace has recently introduced a new editor called the Fluid Engine 🤯. This new engine is designed to provide users with a more intuitive + dynamic way to create and edit their website [This made Squarespace even easier to work with than what already was!]. In this blog post, I will discuss the pros and cons of the Fluid Engine editor and the differences from the classic editor in more detail 💃🏼.
Advantages:
1 - One of the main advantages of the Fluid Engine is its more intuitive interface. The interface is designed to be more user-friendly and easy to navigate, making it simpler for users to create and edit content. This is especially beneficial for users who are new to website building or are not familiar with the classic editor. The Fluid Engine made Squarespace turn into a proper drag-and-drop editor, which allows users to easily move and rearrange elements on their website.
2 - Another advantage of the Fluid Engine is its dynamic editing capabilities. With the Fluid Engine, users can edit their website in real-time, which makes it easier to see how changes will look before publishing/saving them. This eliminates the need to constantly switch between the editing and preview modes, saving users time and effort. Additionally, it also allows users to preview their website on different screen sizes, ensuring that their website looks great on all devices.
3 - The Fluid Engine also offers more design options than the classic editor. Users have access to a wide range of templates and can customize them to their liking. This new editor also includes new design elements such as animations, hover effects, and more, which can be used to create more engaging and interactive websites 😱.
4 - Another advantage is its optimization for mobile editing. With the increasing number of users accessing the internet on their mobile devices, it is essential that your website is optimized for mobile. The Fluid Engine makes it easy for users to edit their website specifically for mobile version ensuring that their website looks great on all devices.
Disadvantages:
However, as with any new tool, there are also some disadvantages to the Fluid Engine.
1- One of the main disadvantages is the limited backwards compatibility. While the Fluid Engine is designed to work with all Squarespace templates, some older templates may not be fully compatible with it. This can be a problem for users who have already built their website using an older template on Squarespace 7.0 or older versions and do not want to start from scratch.
2- Another disadvantage is the learning curve. As with any new tool, there is a learning curve associated with the Fluid Engine [to be honest with you, I wasn’t impressed with it when it was first released]. Users may need to take some time to get used to the new interface and features.
3- Additionally, some features that are available in the classic editor are not yet available in the Fluid Engine. This can be frustrating for users who rely on these features and want to fully switch to the new editor.
Conclusion:
In comparison to the classic editor, the Fluid Engine is a more dynamic and intuitive way to create and edit a website. It also offers more design options and is optimized for mobile editing. However, it does have a learning curve and some older templates may not be fully compatible with it.
Overall, I love this new editor because it is a step forward for Squarespace, the reason why I stick to it, while they drive me crazy with changes I know it’s a company that always moves forward and brings the best to its clients.
Please keep in mind that it has its limitations and may take some time to get used to it. While you might be used to the classic editor and may not want to switch to the new editor I can tell you, YOU WON’T REGREAT IT. If you are a new user or looking for a more dynamic and intuitive website-building experience, then I recommend you to try the Squarespace Fluid Engine.
