Squarespace secrets to make your site stand out

The overall secret is… that Squarespace website templates are customisable and fun to use! However, here are some better ways Squarespace can make your website stand out from the rest.

Pre-footer

Is a section on top of your footer that contains different content. Utilise the prime real estate that is the pre-footer. You can add a Call-To-Action [CTA] and have it display the same on each page of your site. You can be sure that visitors will confidently know what they should do next.

Squarespace SEO Tips

Stand out and get noticed with Search Engine Optimisation [SEO] tactics. Most good SEO tactics get done after you have created your website. For example, providing relevant and valuable content through blogs and backlinks is one way. However, some SEO tactics and Squarespace tips can get done in the beginning. Adding SEO keywords/phrases, titles and meta-description to each page is another way to help people find you.

Announcement Bar

An Announcement Bar is a great way to catch people’s attention and get them interested in what you offer. It can be anything from a freebie, special offer, sign-up or other CTA! The Announcement Bar is located at the top of your website and instantly grabs the visitor’s attention.

SquareKicker*

Say what? SquareKicker is a design and animation extension which allows you to make your site feel unique without needing to use custom code. Woohoo!

An extension for Squarespace 7.1, SquareKicker works by adjusting the code at the backend of your website while you make your design changes in real-time. A perfect solution if you're DIYing your website without any coding knowledge.

Features include, but are not limited to:

  • Customise elements inside the header, across the site or per page

  • Customise elements on any section or page

  • Add a scroll-up button to the website

  • Add a custom scrollbar to the website

  • Add your brand colour palettes and use a couple of extra colours that will not fit into the Squarespace palette limit of 5

  • Device toggle - edit any or most devices

  • Presets - style something how you want it and apply it anywhere else on your site

  • Edit section-specific design settings:

    • Create split-screen layouts

    • Customise view for different devices - desktop, tablet, laptop, mobile

    • Add anchor links for on-page website navigation

    • Change section background colours and add gradients or overlays

    • Change the width, spacing and height - this is in addition to the native setting that Squarespace offers

    • Add divider graphics to the top or bottom of any section

    • Edit the visibility of the section: for example, hide it on specific or all devices

  • Edit blocks [separate from the styling of the elements inside noted below]:

    • Change the layout - where the block size on the page regardless of where you added them

    • Colour changes - background, stroke, shadow, etc.

    • Add or remove padding inside and outside the block

    • Rotate or skew the angle of the block and contents

    • Change the size, height or placement of spacer blocks

  • Edit elements inside the block, such as:

    • Almost anything and everything font-related

    • Buttons - background colour, edges, strokes & colours, shadow, size

    • Image edits for inline or image layout blocks

    • Summary block specific - title, caption, excerpt, thumbnail, columns, borders, shadows, disabling link

    • Spacing and size of elements, such as a button, image or other

Lastly, there are more new exciting features planned in the future - animations and features around sticky elements, sticky scrolling, horizontal scrolling, and a fluid scrolling option.
